| Ministry Moment |
“I need to talk to you more about knowing God,” confessed a young man after our campfire devo time on our Great Adventure (camping, caving, climbing and rafting) Trip in Tennessee. I had taught from 2 Samuel 9 about how we have a gracious invitation to eat at the Lord’s table and to know Him intimately, just as David extended to Mephibosheth. Then we sang Knowing You. God spoke to the young man and prompted him to approach me. So we

went for a walk under the moonlit Tennessee trees. When I asked why God should let him into heaven, he stuttered through his tears, “He shouldn’t…I don’t deserve it.” I smiled and responded, “You’re absolutely right. None of us do. But there is good news.” I proceeded to explain how one is saved by believing in Jesus and His death in our place to declare us righteous; acceptable to God. He believed! He spoke of how the emptiness and pain that had so heavily oppressed him from

current family turmoil is now gone! He said, smiling through crying eyes, “I hope I feel this way tomorrow.” I counted myself blessed to witness such a tangible manifestation of the peace of the Spirit. Then I cautioned him, “Sometimes you’ll feel great, sometimes you won’t. Being a child of God is more about His commitment to you than it is about your feelings. God is still faithful, even when it doesn’t feel good. You stay true to Him as He works in you.”

| Ministry Update |
It has been a crazy summer. At Sportsworld, Denton, our community outreach to elementary students, approx 19 became believers! We took 34 leaders and Jr High students on The Great Adventure in June. We had a ton of fun and two students became believers!
We recently returned home from our Jr High and High School combined mission |
trip to help put on Sportsworld at a church in Virginia. It was a phenomenal trip. We learned a lot about the unity of the body of Christ in Texas and Virginia and serving your heart out even when on the brink of utter exhaustion. It was really cool to see the high school boys step up into mentorship roles with our junior high guys on the trip, |
challenging them in the areas of dating, lust, and wholesome speech.
I’m thrilled about transitioning this year into the role of Student Ministries Missions Coordinator, focusing on the outreach component of everything we do and planning summer mission trips, while teaching high school and jr high students. |
| Personal Update |
Tysen is coming into a really fun age, loving to tackle me and wrestle and making hilarious attempts to say “strawberry please”. Logan and Ian are obsessed with dancing their hearts out to the High School Musical sound track every chance they get, wearing their new customized “V” capes and black “formal” converse low-tops that went with their tuxes as ring bearers in the recent wedding of our Jr High leaders, Russell and Caitlin Andrews. That was my first
|
wedding to officiate, and I didn’t pass out once. I think Kristin and I learned more from the premarital counseling than they did about communicating and spiritual intimacy and how short I fall. I’ve got a lot to learn about spiritual intimacy with my wife. Yet, I’m more in love with her now than ever.
We have a beginners Bible that Logan can now read every page of (Ian chimes in with a few words on each page, too). Logan is about |
to start kindergarten--Yikes!
In my Church History class this summer, God taught me so much about the my own arrogance in neglecting the community of the Spirit that exists not only with the living but also with the Church in History. There is so much to learn! This summer, God taught me I must be more patient with jr high guys and trust the Spirit over my own abilty to bully them into obedience. God help me. |
