Ministry Update

Community: The guy leaders rang the doorbell and waited in knelt formation. When the door opened, we assaulted our girl leaders with a painful rendition of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”.

God continues to bless and bond our community of leaders as he did at our leaders’ Valentine’s dinner (pictured above.) My emphasis this semester will be primarily teaching and pouring into our leaders as they pour into their students.

Service: We have 20 students in SALT (Servant And Leadership Training). We meet monthly for accountability, worship and teaching. After spending the night in groups, we come back together for breakfast and a service project. This past quarter we have served by (1) playing card games at a nursing home, (2) partnering with the inner-city ministry to clean a house donated to the church, and (3) mowed, cut down trees, etc. for an abused children’s home.

Our heart is to inspire in our students a passion for

service as stated in Matt. 5:16: “let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Love Bug Retreat: Our students are at the age where they have started “going out” with one another—even thought they don’t go any where! So as they begin to figure all this out, we want to give them a Biblical perspective on love and dating at our Love Bug retreat this April.

Ministry Moment

One of my faithful volunteer leaders sent this email to me. Read this! This is what it is all about!…

“I wanted to share something with you! Last night one of my girls texted me before JV and said we had to talk. When I got
there we found a place where we could be alone and we talked. It began with her talking about her struggles with some friends and next thing I knew she was telling me she didn't think she was a Christian. She was raised in a great home with great Christian parents. Her

whole life she had gone to church and been preached to. Last night for the first time she wanted to experience and know God herself not just through her parents. God gave her that heart tug and she gave her life to Christ!!!!!!!  God is amazing!!!!!”

Personal Update

Baby: Kristin is now at 29 weeks with our 3rd boy, Tysen Joel Vanderveer! He’s due just in time for finals at Dallas Theological Seminary! So that should be interesting. Please pray for Kristin’s back pain as the pregnancy wears on.

Grades: For the 12 hours in the Fall and 3 hours in the Winter-mester, God has blessed me with all A’s and B+’s (which at DTS is 90 and above.) I’m stunned and praise God for this truly unmerited favor!
(FYI: I reserve the right to never share my grades again in the case that I might forget and/or if my grades drop significantly.)

Teaching: My usual responsibilities include the teaching and program direction for the Wednesday evening Jr. High program called JV. However, I recently had the honor of preaching a 3 week series on 2 Timothy at our Sunday morning service for Jr. High and High School combined, called Fusion. It was a treasured opportunity of growth and experience for me.

If you would like to hear some audio clips from the series, go to the iTunes podcast for Denton Bible Student Ministries or go to www.andyvandy.com/teaching

Date Night: Kristin and I have a sweet deal worked out with some awesome friends, Dave and Heather Souders! They also have 2 young children under 5. One Thursday night, we’ll watch their children so they can go out on a date. The next week they watch ours while we go out. And the blissful cycle of dates and free babysitting goes ‘round and ‘round…and we never wanna get off!

Donuts: I’ve also started a cool new “Wed. morning at the donut shop” tradition with Logan and Ian. I alternate between the 2 of them each week. We love it!
