Ministry Moment

We’re taking over “Big Church!” This Sunday is Student Ministries Sunday. Our Student Ministries Director is preaching, our youth band is playing and the rest of the leaders and students are greeting at the doors. This is a huge step in the right direction towards cultivating intergenerational community here at Denton Bible Church.

The Older Generations: In a church our size with the youth building across the street, the truth is that many people in our body have no

idea what goes on in youthgroup week in and week out…or are unaware of the fact that we even have a youth ministry.

The Younger Generations: Youth ministry experts agree and the latest research shows that 7 out of 10 youth never return to church after high school graduation. Part of the reason is that when they are too old for youth group, and finally attend big church, it feels so foreign, so unlike youth group, that they don’t like it, and simply don’t come back around

Bridging the Gap:
Our hope is that Student Ministries Sunday will function as a handshake of sorts (as if meeting for the first time). I believe many of the adults in our church will be pleasantly surprised at the excellence, growth and energy that exists in our youth group. I also hope to give our students a glimpse of mature men and women worshiping the Lord, and have them think, “That’s pretty cool…that is something I think I can grow into some day.”

Ministry Update

In January we took 75 people on our Junior High Heroes Retreat. It was an amazing weekend that helped students see how they can do amazing things through the very real super power of Jesus Christ in them. God has given each of us all we need to change the world in Him.

DBSM Serve
In November we took a group of high school

students and put them to work serving in the community on a variety of projects. Some people served in the Community Garden, others handed out clothing and food with Vision Ministries while still others painted the inside of the Student Ministry building.

Huddle Serve
One Wednesday in September, instead of

coming in to the Mill forElevate we went out into the community as huddle groups to do a service project of their choice (nursing home visitation, raking leaves, cleaning a house, food pantry service, etc.).

Pegfest 2011
Our first outreach dodgeball tournament was a huge success, with a ton of new students who came out.

Personal Update

So we’ve had some crazy snow and ice days. It allowed us the freedom for some much needed catch up on homework, wrestling, snowball fights and mustache drawing. Being pent up in the house for so long, Kristin got a little stir crazy, and by Friday she was rearranging furniture, just to maintain her sanity.

So, this is shaping up to be an incredibly busy semester. We have premarital

counseling for two couples (which we love), two weddings to officiate, a D Now and a Cotillion. On top of that I have classes at DTS three days a week this semester, and Thursdays I’m gone from 5:30am to 10:30pm. And the interviews have begun, which take up a significant amount of time and concentration.

Please pray for God’s grace that my family is not damaged this last semester

and that I have the courage to sacrifice school when need be tofinish this semester strong.

The next phase of our life is steadily approaching! Three months until graduation! We covet your prayers for our family as we continue praying about our future—That God would open our eyes to His will, and we would rely completely on His guidance.
