| Ministry Moment |
Wed. Jan. 28, as I sat eating lunch with one of my leaders at Jack in the Box (wrapped up in a conversation about the necessity of living out our faith with action), a clan of 15 Mormons poured in, clad with white shirts and ties.
As the drama unfolded, a homeless man entered. The only question was “who would meet this man’s needs first?” I told my friend, “I’m gonna buy him a sandwich…but I’ll wait for the line to go |
down first.” As I hesitated, the Mormons swarmed and in minutes were walking the homeless man through their literature.
Never before had I seen a soul (up for grabs, as it were) snatched up into error right before my eyes. The horror of it was paralyzing. As I sat there soaking in my conviction, my friend and I determined that our best course of action was to pray for the man—that God would protect him from error and succeed where we had |
failed. We left in strange silence. Perhaps most tragic is the fact that I felt no urgency for the man’s soul until I saw it snatched up before my eyes (like the grade school boy who takes his female pursuer for granted until the instant another takes interest in her).
Jesus, You “came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) Lord, help us all to share your urgency for the lost 24/7, pleading with men, “be reconciled to God!” (2Cor5:20) |

Lamentations, our latest Sunday series is now available on iTunes under “student ministries.”
SALT: We have about 30 kids in Servant And Leadership Training. Last Fri. we taught the students the structure of the 27 books of the New Testament, complete with pneumonic devices to aid in memorization. (For example: Giants Eat Peas and |
Carrots for Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians) We followed with group races to write out all 66 books of the Bible. I think they had some fun while learning some great stuff. They also learned the 1st 3 Biblical historical eras (from 30 Days to Understanding Your Bible): Creation, Patriarchs, Exodus.
On Sat. we did some furniture drop offs for Vision Ministry. |
It was a cool opportunity for students to experience meeting real needs in our community.
For the most part the students are faithfully keeping up with their Scripture memory and are teaching all that they learn in SALT to another student—that’s 2 Tim 2:2 in action. I’m very proud of them all! |
| Personal Update |
On January 18th,Tysen Joel Vanderveer was dedicated with his cousin, Maxwell Craig Vanderveer, at the final meeting of The Well, DBC’s evening service. It was awesome!
10 of us (friends and leaders) have committed to going through the One Year Bible in 2009. The community of encouragement and accountability and learning from Scripture together has been incredible. It has already |
spawned lots of growth and interesting conversations on some difficult texts. The Word of God is changing us.
This semester at DTS I’m getting 3 hours of internship credit for the work I’m already doing at DBC, which frees me up to take only 3 other classes and still be full time. I’ll need that extra time to finish my last semester of Hebrew, while taking my second semester of Greek concurrently.

God has answered our prayers and blessed us with an awesome to place to live at Waterford at Spencer Oaks. The location and visitor parking is much easier for our friends and leaders to find (great for building community and fellowship). Please pray for relationships and ministry opportunities with our new neighbors. Our new address is 2100 Spencer Road #110, Denton, TX 76205.
God is great!
