Ministry Moment

An eighth grade student I’ve been mentoring confessed to me that he struggles with watching things on TV that he shouldn’t when he goes to stay with his Dad (where there are no parental controls on the TV). I challenged him to reach out for accountability before he leaves for his Dad’s next time… and he did! He sent

me a text one day that said, “Hey I’m going to see my Dad. Ask me when I get back if I watched anything I shouldn’t have.”
The next time I saw him, I asked him how he did. He was glowing as he blurted out, “I did it! I didn’t watch anything!” I told him how proud I was of him.

A week later, we went to visit some family in

Houston, where we stayed in a hotel. To drive the lesson home that it’s a wise lifelong habit, I sent him a text: “I’m about to be by myself for pockets of time in a hotel room. Ask me later if I watched anything stupid.” He replied: “Now I’m proud of you :)

Ministry Update

I was recently wrestling with Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

The part that sorta rubbed me wrong was

the “teaching” part. Though I do meet with leaders and students, I could not say that I am consistently teaching them stuff that they can re-teach (like Jesus did).  So out of this conviction I put together a little 5 week booklet made up of discipleship material that mentors have shared with me throughout the years.

I’ve recently finished

taking a group of 3 new believer students through this study and they have all committed to taking someone else through the same booklet and are in the process of doing that. I’m also taking some volunteer leaders through the same material that they can then share with more students. By God’s grace, we’re striving to live out 2 Timothy 2:2.

Personal Update

This semester has been really satisfying so far. My grades have begun to dip a little and my quality of life has been steadily improving, as I strive for balance in all areas of my life.

We had a little scare at with our living situation last week. We do some activities and events planning for our apartment community in exchange for rent assistance. Last week our complex was bought by new management and

they decided not to renew our contract. Our world was quickly turned upside down as we started looking for comparable living situations (with no luck). We had a ton of people praying for us (as were we) as we scrambled. God intervened and 48 hours later, the new management had a change of heart and decided to renew our contract! So we get to stay in our home and keep on doing what we've been doing!

God used this graciously short lesson to drive us to our knees in prayer, show us how good we have it, how we can cut back as better stewards, how we need to say "thank you" more often, and ultimately how good He is to graciously provide beyond our need. As it turns out, God is always in control and always GOOD... even when for 48 hrs it appears you have been displaced... He is always sufficient!
