| Ministry Update |
Love Bug Retreat: One of our leaders joked, “Well, I guess the retreat was a success, no conversions, but we had 3 break-ups!”
The Love Bug Retreat marked a huge milestone for me personally and a huge success for the ministry.
For me, personally, this was my first retreat to lead on my own without any on-site supervision…and with no major debacles.
As a ministry it was a huge success in that close to one |
hundred junior high students came, had a blast, strengthened friendships, and explored a biblical view of love, sex and dating. Our guiding principle for the weekend was that our purpose, as the image-bearers of God, is to display His glory in all that we do, including our relationships. Rather than see how much we can get away with, we are to pursue the very holiness of God.

The New Guy: Our Student Ministries Director, Joe Batluck, is following the Lord’s leading to a ministry position elsewhere. This is the man who has discipled me, did our pre-marital counseling and taught me everything I know about ministry. He will be missed.
God, who is faithful, has sent us a man perfectly prepared to lead our ministry: Chris Wilson. He hit the ground running last week and we’re all looking forward to great things for our ministry. |

An email from one of our leaders: After huddle group, I asked one of my girls, who looked particularly bothered, “Is everything all right?” She responded, “I actually wanted to talk to you about something,” as she recapped the times in her life when she had given her life to God and confessed, “But I don't think I'm a Christian.” So I asked her what she thought it meant
|
to be a Christian. She said that you must believe in Jesus and do “good things.” So I walked her through Romans 6:23 breaking down that she was a sinner who because of her sin deserved death...BUT that God had given her eternal life in Jesus Christ, by grace through faith. I told her that she could never do enough good things to get to heaven. I explained that |
salvation wasn't to please anyone—not mom or dad or even me…but that it was only between her and God. So I asked her to think about all of that, I didn't want her to make a decision without having thought about it on her own. I told her not to go to bed that night until she had talked to God about it. It is amazing to be a part of God’s work in these young girls lives. |
| Personal Update |
Tysen Joel Vanderveer, our 3rd boy, was born 3 weeks early, April 21, 2008! Despite an early start, Tysen is healthy and growing strong, and just weighed in at 10 lbs. this week! Kristin is the most amazing mother and makes raising 3 kids look easier than it really is. Thank God with us for Tysen, his health and for Kristin’s speedy recovery. God is so good!
My seminary professors flexed with me on deadlines |
so I could finish the semester strong and not ditch my family in the midst of my 3rd born son.
Logan and Ian love their little brother SO much and are very loving and gentle with him (most of the time).
Mother’s Day was a lot of fun! As I sat the boys down to explain to them the significance of showing our appreciation to Mommy for all that she does for us on Mother’s Day, Logan |
responded, “That’s great…when is Boys’ Day?”
Our family of five has a huge summer ahead of us. I’ll be going on at least 2 one-week long youth group trips and a couple of weekend trips. I’m also taking one summer class at DTS along with our regular weekly duties at church. So throw a newborn into the mix and we’ve got a busy summer! Please pray that I’ll balance my time with family, work and school well. |
