Ministry Moment

On our ski trip to Winterpark, CO, I survived a couple of blue slopes, Logan and Ian did some snow sledding, and I had many awesome conversations with students.

One night in small group time, I was physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausted, having neglected the kind of daily time with God that I should have spent. I limped through the discussion questions, impatient and ill-prepared. The students were asking

some great questions, like “with so many religions in the world, how do you know Christianity is the only true one?” I struggled through, trying to think quickly on my feet, and finally we were out of time. I knew I hadn’t done justice to their great questions. Convinced that the discussion was a complete failure, I was frustrated and disappointed in myself, and broken at my lack of nearness to God on the trip. The next day, a room leader reported to me what one of those students said as he drifted off to sleep.

He had told the leader that it was the best small group discussion that he had ever had and he quoted scripture that we had discussed and ranted about wanting to study the Bible more! His strength is truly made perfect in our weakness!

2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.”
Ministry Update

God has blessed me with several conversations with parents about very direct ministry needs with their children. It has been cool to experience more of a direct face to face sniper-type approach with real life ministry issues rather than the usual Sunday morning shotgun-type ministry of a big group sermon broadcast.

I think this is the first

time that I’ve truly had to practice my preaching that we, as student ministry leaders, are not here to disciple students; rather we are tools to be used by parents in their  discipleship of their students.

These conversations led to some great student interaction and strengthened relationships with both parents and students.

We just wrapped up our Jr High “Identity Theft” retreat. We debunked the myths of what the world tells our students to find their identity in and equipped them with a biblical view of what it means to be identified in Christ...and played lots of messy games, too! Many first time visitors came and many had one on one conversations about the gospel for the first time!

Personal Update

Tysen turned 1 and is walking ALL OVER the place, keeping us busy.
Logan prayed the other night, “God come into our hearts and play with us.”
Ian protects his princess (Mommy) everyday by fighting epic battles with imaginary foes complete with two sided dialogue:  “You can’t come in here!—Yes I can!” etc.

Kristin and I just celebrated our 7yr Anniversary! God is so good! Kristin leads an inductive Bible study methods bible study for several of our Jr High girls leaders. I’m so proud

’m enjoying the calm before the storm. We just celebrated my reaching the half way point in my 4 year Masters in Theology at DTS! More importantly, I’m finished with Hebrew—that was tough. But now (with some toil) I can translate some Hebrew and can effectively interact with some of the more technical commentaries that discuss what’s going on in the original languages behind the interpretations—all helping me to dig down deep into the true heart of meaning of any given passage; helping me to rightly divide the Word. (2 Timothy 2:15)

I have a couple of weeks here before summer school and summer youth trips (Sportsworld Denton, Great Adventure, and Sportsworld Virginia) start up. Then it’ll be another fast and furious summer.

Also, I should mention that Logan came to us the other day repeating proudly, "I HAVE A LOOSE TOOTH!" Ian chimed in, "Yeah, but I don't have a worse tooth." A few days later, Logan's tooth fell out and he had his first visit from the tooth fairy.
