I had a great conversation with a student recently over sonic breakfast. After a meandering discussion that ranged from descriptions of trampoline basketball slam dunks in his back yard to high school athletics locker room conversations to snack food preferences…I took a deep breath and asked, “So, what do you think about this whole Christianity thing?” He replied, “Well, I still have a lot of questions about how all that stuff in
|
revelation is gonna happen?” I asked, “Why is that stuff so important to you?” He answered, “Well, I just think if I’m gonna believe in this guy I should know all about the end of His plan and what this is all headed to.” I explained to him, “You know, it seems to me that the specific details of His final victory are of secondary importance. But what is really important is how can you be reconciled to God.” I explained to him Christ’s work in reconciling man back to God if he would only believe. Then I
|
encouraged him, “Keep asking all your questions…but remember, your mind is finite, and God is infinite. And at some point you will step up to the edge of your reason and have to take a leap of faith to believe (even without all of your questions answered). Be looking for that moment, listen to His Spirit and be ready to believe.” He said, “That makes sense. I’ll be looking for that. ”It was truly a breakthrough in our relationship for him to listen like that.

On April 16, we had our $24-24hr Jr High Lockin with the theme of “Knowing God 24/7.” It was a really great opportunity to help students differentiate between knowing about God and actually knowing Him.
I explained to them, “God loves you like crazy, and wants to be your friend and to have a personal relationship |
with you. He wants that friendship with you so bad that He sent His Son to die on the cross to make that possible.
But God doesn’t just want to save you, he wants to communicate with you 24/7, the same way you do with your BFF…you don’t have to just talk to God when you’re in church or in crisis. He wants to hear your heart and wants |
you to talk to Him about everything and nothing at all, all day long—much like the way you text your BFF all day long...”
During the retreat they had 3 opportunities to be alone with the Lord to just try to communicate with God as their best friend…then we finished the retreat with a massive, legendary game of crud wars! |

Well it has been a hectic end of a semester, but now I only have one year of seminary left! I can’t believe it. We are so excited. In some ways it has gone by so fast…while in other ways it has been excruciatingly slow. Please pray with us as we pray through what and where God’s will is for our family post-graduation. Our heart is definitely still in youth ministry, but we just don’t know where yet. Please pray for wisdom and for clarity and unity and

peace from the Holy Spirit for us.
I’m taking my last Greek class in an intensive 3 week summer class that is going to eat my lunch! (I’m more of a rip the band-aid right off kinda guy.) But before May is done, I will be finished with all of my language courses!!! J So we’re excited.
I’ll be officiating my first wedding solo this summer for one of our beloved volunteer leaders. I feel so |
honored…and a little nervous.
So this summer will be crammed full with Greek, Sportsworld, a wedding, Great Adventure and Ultimate Beach Adventure. After that I get to rest for a couple of weeks before the fall of my final year kicks off. Kristin and the boys get to come with me on Ultimate Beach Adventure, so we’re really excited about that and all the rest that the summer holds. |
