Ministry Moment

I had an assignment in my evangelism class to share the gospel. I’m ashamed to say that it took a grade to get me to share the gospel with my neighbors. Nonetheless…
I shared the gospel with one of the other dads on my son’s soccer team (whom I had befriended—a man from Mexico named Gustavo) during soccer practice one night. There was no net on the goal so he and I were sort of down there by ourselves catching stray balls. So I utilized the time to

ourselves and asked him if his Catholic church tells him how you can know for certain you’re going to heaven. He said I think you can know if you do enough good things. I then shared my testimony and how I know for certain that I’m going to heaven, doing my best to emphasize Eph 2:8-9 and the distinction between works and grace.
I also shared the gospel with my friend and next-door neighbor—an elderly man named Lonnie (and his wife Leena). I asked him if

he knew for certain where he’s going to spend eternity. He said he didn’t really know. I shared my testimony. At the end, it was almost as if he knew an invitation was coming and he cut me off, “Yeah I was baptized and I believe and everything.” We got sidetracked after that.
Though I may have watered or planted, I rest in the fact that it is “only God, who makes things grow” (1Cor 3:7). Please pray with us for further conversations with my friends.

Ministry Update

Heroes: Our Fall retreat was a huge success. Many student-to-leader relationships were born and strengthened (which is crucial for a relational ministry founded on 1Thess. 2:8). We spent a weekend at Pinecove, doing zip line, shaving cream wars and Ultimate Cowtongue (Ultimate Frisbee played with a real beef tongue).

We taught on the unlikely heroes (Ehud, Deborah, Barak) from the book of Judges, who, when every

man did what was right in his own eyes (Judges 17:6), were available and faithful to be used by God. We challenged them to be available and courageous to be leaders in their schools and homes.

My boys are still reenacting the skits almost daily. Click here to watch Logan and here to watch Ian.

My Sunday morning teaching is now available on itunes podcast.

SALT: Our Servant And Leadership Training program this year is challenging students to teach others what they’re learning (2 Tim 2:2). We’re teaching them how to share their testimony, the bridge illustration, and a timeline structure of the entire Bible, and holding them accountable to teach someone else. Personal Update

This has been a tough semester at DTS. I’m taking 13 hours. But praise God the semester is almost over!
The boys just got a couple of clearanced post –Halloween costumes and LOVE dressing up and playing “heroes” all the time!

Logan has finished his first soccer season. He’s definitely more interested in making his teammates laugh than he is at scoring goals. Everyone knows to expect a good dance out of Logan

every time his team scores,
Ian is about to start his beginners’ basketball class and is SO excited.
Tysen is rolling all over the place these days and babbles a lot! See more pics on our PhotoBlog.

I’m so proud of Kristin! She’s leading a women’s Bible study for eight of our leaders and their friends and meeting one-on-one with a couple of them as well. And somehow still has time to play with and care for our sons and me flawlessly.

God has provided 51% of the monthly support I agreed to raise for SMI.  Please pray that God would provide continued and additional ministry partners who will support the ministry of SMI, which continues to facilitate my involvement in ministry.  As well, pray for peace in trusting His care.

Praise God with us for all the blessings and fulfillment that come from thriving and serving where He has us now.
