| Ministry Moment |
I ran into a 9th grader at the gym who had been MIA in student ministries for a while. He said he had a lot of unanswered questions. So we went and had breakfast. His first question was, “How do you get interested in studying the Bible if that desire is not there?” I explained that the Word is pure spiritual milk (1Peter 2:2) for the converted believer. When I asked him when he became a believer, I discovered that he prayed a prayer to escape hell after a Judgment Day haunted house at a

church. There was no real understanding and no real follow up. We walked through the bridge illustration on a Chick Fil A napkin. When we got to the part about how to receive this free gift of eternal life, I had him read John 1:12 “But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has given the right to become God’s children.”
I asked him, “How do we receive that gift?” He answered with a question, “By believing in His name?” I exclaimed, “Yes!”
|
He looked puzzled, “That’s it?”-- “Yes!”
Before we left, I told him to start reading the book of John and before 4pm that day I had already received 3 texts from him asking, “So Jesus is the Word?” and “What does it mean that the darkness did not comprehend Him?” and “So Jesus is both the Word and the Light?” – What great questions! This brother is longing for the pure milk of the Word and digging in. Praise God! |

We’ll, big surprise, things are busy. Two weekends ago, we went to Sky Ranch in Van, Texas for our Middle School Retreat. It was our cherished Information Overload retreat, where we overload them with teaching, sprinkled with tons of crazy skits, that cover all 66 books of the Bible. Every bit of it points to the cross of Christ, climaxing with a gospel

presentation.
Four private Christian school girls prayed to receive Christ, explaining, “We always knew all the answers, but never understood why Jesus needed to die.” Praise God!
Two weekends later, I was at the High School retreat, teaching about the wall of slavery that is torn down in Christ. |
We’ve started a co-ed inductive Bible study with some leaders at our house. It’s so much fun leading with Kristin.
I’ve got a new believers’ Bible study in the works for four eighth and ninth graders who have all believed in Jesus within the past six months. Things are busy, and God is great! |
| Personal Update |
I’m continually amazed at how awesome my wife is and how much she puts up with me and all of my commitments. She’s so encouraging, supportive, and selfless. I’m so proud of her being an ambassador, inviting one of our gym daycare workers to our Bible Study and helping Logan’s teacher with organizing and filing, and just being generally hot and awesome.
Ian is now wearing glasses and loves them. He has a swagger and a smirk to go with them when any female comments on them. |
Logan’s kindergarten teacher has been bragging about Logan’s 2nd grade reading level. The boy loves to read and loves going to school every day.
Halloween was pretty crazy. We hit three fall festivals and went trick or treating. That was fun. Ian would march up to each door in his green dinosaur costume and declare, “sugar treat!” We didn’t have the heart to correct him…but we did get it on video. |
Tysen has started to say a lot of words and is really growing into the personality of a comedian. If his brothers laugh at him once, he feeds off of it and repeats it and just keeps them rolling! (I think he gets that from his mom.) It is so much fun to watch.
I can’t wait for the holidays, which bring the promise of good friends, family feasting…and naps! |
