Update
8/2/07
God is so good! Our house is almost sold. We close Aug. 15. Yesterday we signed a lease on a great and affordable apartment in Denton. To get the low income discount we have to survive piles of government paperwork that ensures our income is what we say it is. Please pray that my freelance graphic design and kristin's photography doesn't raise any red flags and slow things down. Thank you so much for your prayers and friendship.

God is so good! We have received approx. 3 months worth of support in one-time gifts thus far for our ministry with SMI. Please join us in prayer for more monthly commitments to come in (as we know these are much harder for people to commit to). We know God will provide, as He always does. Thanks.
A Teachable Moment
“So what did you do last night?” I asked from behind the wheel as rain speckled the windshield. Brad, a sophomore in high school answered casually, “Oh, I just hung out with John, Austin, Jeff and...Hannah,” He smirked, looking straight ahead, knowing that this was the first time I had heard this girl’s name. I shrieked with vicarious excitement, “Hannah! Who’s Hannah?” His face lit up as he oozed flattery for the next several minutes about this new girl who he thinks he might like. As the initial excitement of the conversation waned, we merged into the topic of Brad’s intentions with this young woman. Our meandering chat took us through the pros and cons of dating, when to date, boundaries in dating, my experiences and what the Bible has to say about sex and dating. After a fruitful discussion, Brad decided for now to just take his time getting to know Hannah in groups as a friend. He resolved to patiently seek God’s will for their relationship and to not be rushed from pressure of any kind.
The Plunge
It’s in moments like these, when I’m sharing my life and the Word of God with students, that I feel most fulfilled. Through the years and through these moments, God has convinced me that He has uniquely created me to be a youth pastor. Through a series of circumstances in His perfect timing and a peace He has given me and my wife that surpasses all comprehension, God has shown us that the time is now. So I’m taking the plunge! I am leaving my nets of a secure job and promising career path to devote myself full time to sharing Jesus and God's Word with young men and women. I believe that God has not left us here to wonder where we might spend eternity. I believe He has shown us the way to live a life of joy and purpose and abundance.
I believe that this certain eternity and this joyous life are granted to us when we make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ—to believe that His death, alone, pays for our sins before God. Then, after we believe, as new creations, we long for the Word of God and we live it, demonstrating the love of Christ to our world in a very real way. I have a passion to share with students this life in Christ. I have a passion to teach the Word of God and to challenge students to rise above the all-consuming quest for peer approval that pervades America’s schools. I have a passion to call students to a life lived more nobly—to live for the ministry of reconciliation referred to in 2Corinthians Chapter 5, and to truly be ambassadors for Christ in their schools. I long for students to realize that God has not placed them in their particular schools simply for their own gratification, but to represent Jesus to everyone around them—What an honor! What a joy! They are called to show their peers how great God is and to show them how to come to Him—to plead with their peers, “be reconciled to God” (2Cor.5:20). So now, with this wonderful journey ahead of me, I plunge onward, not knowing precisely what my future holds, but trusting Him who holds it.
The Plan
In August I embark as a full time student towards my (4-5 yr.) Masters in Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary. I will also serve part time as the Junior High Director at Denton Bible Church. God has been so good to us! We are so excited for what He is doing with our lives. Know that we covet your prayers through this time of transition. With this web page, we are primarily thrilled just to be able to share with you all the exciting new changes God is
bringing our way.
The Means
Additionally, I would like to share with you the exciting opportunity I have to be affiliated with Student Ministries Inc (SMI). SMI is a nonprofit organization that enables me to be involved in ministry and receive mentoring and accountability for personal development. SMI has approved for me to work with Denton Bible Church as Junior High Director. SMI contracts with students like myself to work a set number of hours per month in a ministry and receive compensation from financial supporters giving to SMI. This is an excellent way for a team of partners to be involved with the ministry of SMI as they prepare the next generation of ministers to increase their effectiveness
for ministry. The invaluable ministry experience from SMI/DBC and education from DTS will help prepare me for a future in vocational ministry. It is my responsibility to form a team of ministry partners who will support SMI with monthly financial commitments and prayer. And because SMI is a recognized nonprofit organization, all contributions given to SMI are tax-deductible. SMI, as a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), is held to the highest standard of accountability for their financial transactions. Click here for more information about SMI.
I have agreed to raise $2,000 per month for the ministry of SMI. Will you prayerfully consider partnering with SMI on a monthly basis financially and through prayer? Click here to download a response card to mail in and communicate how God is leading you to participate in this ministry. Or to donate to SMI using a credit card click here and reference my SMI account #21498. Please don't hesitate to call me and just say "hey" or "you're crazy" or to ask me any questions at all that you may have about all this. These are crazy-exciting times for us and we're so thrilled to be able to share with you all that God is doing in our lives. We're so excited! We'll talk to you soon. Peace out.
